Questions about Pay in 3 repayments
How do I make my repayments?
After your initial payment, your 2 subsequent repayments will be taken automatically from the confirmed payment method you provided at the time of application. Accepted repayment methods for Pay in 3 loans are Debit card or Bank account linked to your PayPal account. Currently, your PayPal balance can't be used for repayments.
Where can I see how much I owe?
Just log into your PayPal account, go to your Pay in 3 section, and click on the specific Pay in 3 plan you want to see. The amount you still owe will be under “Remaining”.
Where can I see the amount of my repayments?
Log into your PayPal account, go to your Pay in 3 section, and click on the specific Pay in 3 plan you want to see. There you can see the amounts of your previous repayments in your Plan Activity. You can also see the amounts of upcoming repayments by clicking “See Upcoming Payments”.
Can I make extra or unscheduled repayments?
Yes. Log into your PayPal account, go to the Pay in 3 section, choose the Pay in 3 plan you want to pay and click Make a Payment. Then, you can make an unscheduled or extra repayment that will be applied to that Pay in 3 plan.
Important information. If automatic payments are enabled for your Pay in 3 plan, the unscheduled or extra repayment has to be received prior to 11:59pm GMT the day before your repayment due date to stop the automatic repayment from processing. Processing an unscheduled or extra repayment after this cut-off time may result in both the unscheduled or extra repayment and the scheduled automatic repayment processing. We are unable to return payments. If this action results in an overpayment of your full Pay in 3 loan, the overpayment will be refunded to your PayPal balance.
Can I pay off the entire Pay in 3 plan at once?
Yes. Log into your PayPal account, go to your Pay in 3 section, choose the Pay in 3 plan you want to pay off and click Make a Payment. Then you can make an unscheduled repayment of full balance to pay off the entire Pay in 3 loan. There is no cost for paying off the balance early.
Can I pause or suspend my Pay in 3 repayments?
Once you agree to the terms of your Pay in 3 plan and your repayments begin, in most cases, you cannot pause, suspend, or skip your payments. The second and third repayments will be taken automatically.
If you are experiencing a short-term financial hardship, please contact us as you may be eligible for our free “Payment Holiday Program”, which is available once per loan and will move your next payment out by 1 month. Eligibility rules will apply such as having no overdue or missed payments on any of your Pay in 3 loans and not being enrolled currently in another hardship programme. We also may evaluate eligibility based on your broader circumstances and ability to make repayments in the longer term.
Why didn't my repayment go through?
There are several reasons we may not have been able to complete your scheduled repayment. For example, if the debit card used to sign up to your Pay in 3 plan has expired or if there were insufficient funds available in your bank account balance.
How can I update my repayment method for future repayments?
If you want to make future repayments with a different or updated payment method, you can change your payment method by:
- Logging in to your PayPal account
- Going to the Pay in 3 section
- Selecting the Pay in 3 plan you want to update
There, you can click “Change” under “Payment Method” and follow the prompts to update the payment method for your loan.
Accepted repayment methods for Pay in 3 loans are Debit card or Bank account linked to your PayPal account. You may need to confirm your new payment method before you can use it for repayments.
What if I may miss a repayment?
Missing a repayment may cause your account to become overdue. You may be contacted about your overdue balance and informed of how you can make your repayment. Missed repayments may impact your ability to access other sources of credit and future eligibility for Pay in 3.
If you are experiencing a short-term financial hardship, please contact us as you may be eligible for our free “Payment Holiday Program”, which is a 1 time per loan offer that will move your next payment out by 1 month. Eligibility rules will apply such as having no overdue or past due payments with PayPal and not being enrolled currently in another hardship programme. We also may evaluate eligibility based on your broader circumstances and ability to make repayments in the longer term.
How long does it take for my latest repayment to appear in my Pay in 3 activity?
Your Activity is updated within 24 hours on the Pay in 3 section of your PayPal account.
I have opened a dispute, do I still need to make repayments?
Yes. You must continue making repayments when due while we investigate your dispute.
Should I still make repayments if I’m expecting a refund?
Yes, it’s important to continue making repayments according to your repayment schedule even if you are expecting a refund.
If you return the item(s) purchased using Pay in 3 according to your legal statutory rights and/or the refund policy of the merchant, you will receive a full or partial refund. Once a merchant processes your refund, we’ll apply the refunded amount to your Pay in 3 loan. If the refunded amount exceeds the outstanding loan balance, the excess money will be applied to your PayPal balance. If the refunded amount does not exceed the outstanding loan balance, the partial refund will lower the amounts you owe in the remaining repayments and you must continue to make your Pay in 3 repayments until the loan is paid in full. We’ll notify you via email when the refund has been processed and applied.
If you are concerned that your next repayment will be taken before we receive a refund, you can contact us online at www.paypal.com/uk by selecting ‘Help’ and then ‘Contact us’. This will allow us to either pause your next payment or stop your payments being taken automatically.
If the merchant issues a refund in the form of a store credit, gift card, or cash, your remaining loan balance will still be due. This is because PayPal paid the merchant on your behalf when you were approved for the Pay in 3 loan. Since the merchant refunded you directly, you’ll still owe any remaining balance on the loan.
