What’s required to send money to a bank account in Mexico?
When sending a transaction, we’ll ask you information about your contact and their bank account. Make sure to enter all information carefully to avoid delays. Here’s what you’ll need to know:
- Bank details and account number
- The entire name of your contact as it appears on their bank account
- A valid phone number from your contact (city code + domestic number)
- We may ask for your contact's mailing address if required by our payment partner
Additional information to consider before sending to a bank account in Mexico:
- All deposits are made into Mexican Pesos (MXN) accounts.
- For most banks, there’s a 999.99 USD limit per transaction, and 5,000 USD limit per month. For Banorte, the limit per transaction is 2,800 USD.
What’s a CLABE number in Mexico?
CLABE (Clave Bancaria Estandarizada) is an 18-digit standard for bank account numbers in Mexico. It’s required to send and receive inter-bank fund transfers since June 1, 2004, when it replaced the old 11-digit format. It can be found on any bank statement or online bank service.
The 18 CLABE digits are divided into:
- Bank code: 3 digits
- Branch Office Code: 3 digits
- Account Number: 11 digits
- Control Digit: 1 digit
